/24-7PressRelease/ - WEST CHESTER, OH, July 09, 2007 - EZ Change Lock develops a new interchangeable core (IC) lock, IC-MAX , that eliminates the need for a control key. Control keys pose a security and liability risk comparable to that of master keys; both provide universal access across an installed lock system, frequently consisting of hundreds or even thousands of locks. Missing, stolen, or duplicated master or control keys pose a high risk of unauthorized access and have frequently been cited in criminal activity. The elimination of the control key enables deployment and convenience of IC core lock systems while mitigating the security and liability risk.

Mike Lenk, President, points towards an increasing trend among end-users of eliminating master key systems to increase security and reduce liability. "Many of the largest apartment management companies have chosen to forgo the operating convenience of master keyed systems to improve security and reduce liability exposure," explains Lenk. He adds, "IC-Max provides the operating convenience of IC core at the higher security level of non-master keyed systems."

IC core lock systems are installed in an exhaustive list of facilities including schools, student housing, apartments, office buildings, restaurants, retailers, and government buildings. "To our knowledge," Lenk comments, "all IC core lock systems and brands offered by lock companies feature the use of a control key to effect IC core changes." Lenk views this as an "Achilles heel" in the security industry, adding, "even the most respected, highest-security brands are not immune to the risk posed by a control key."

In today's IC core systems, the control key is used to remove a core from its host lock; the core may subsequently be installed in another lock. The security risk resides in the control key being the universal core removal key among all the locks in the system. Once the core is removed, access can easily be gained, thus the lost control of either a master or control key poses a similarly high risk.

IC-MAX developer and CEO, Rod Herdman, explains the company's new IC core product. "We have eliminated the universal control key; the IC core of a lock can only be removed by using the unique operating key for that specific lock while inserting a change tool." Referencing a technical drawing, Herdman muses, "Change tool is an exotic term in this instance; it is really as simple as inserting a paper clip."

IC-MAX is the latest in a continuing series of novel lock designs pioneered by EZ Change Lock. The company's product palette includes a variety of recodeable, Interchangeable Key locks and lock cylinders that enable end-users to effect key changes at the push of a button. The company's cylinders are compatible with most lock brands including Schlage , Sargent , Arrow , and Dorma , enabling their use for both new construction and upgrade of existing facilities.
