FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, June 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fairlane Town Center is encouraging kids and their families to stay active rain or shine this summer with its second Kids 'N Kicks summer walking program. The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan-sponsored program, open to area families, is free of charge and runs through August 19, 2010. Last year, more than 100 children and their families tracked their summer walking at Fairlane Town Center. ---
Kids and their families can register at the Information Desk, where they will receive a start-up membership kit to keep track of how far they walk during the summer. The member kit includes a walking log, Fairlane Town Center map, walking route calculations, and a neck tote and pencil that participants are encouraged to bring with them each time they walk visit.
The summer program will conclude with a recognition ceremony for all participants and special prizes for the top five Kids 'N Kicks walkers.
"Blue Cross Blue Shield is committed to building a healthier Michigan by supporting initiatives that get people moving and eating healthier. We have strategic partnerships with communities, businesses, and organizations throughout Michigan to increase awareness and adoption of healthier lifestyles. This walking program aligns well with our continuing efforts to improve children's health," said Equilla Wainwright, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's vice president of diversity and community responsibility.
At the end of each Kids 'N Kicks visit, participants record the distance walked in their logbooks and take it to the Information Desk for a completion stamp. Kids will receive a special treat each visit and a milestone prize for every five Kids 'N Kicks visits.
"We're excited Kids 'N Kicks was so well received last summer with more than 100 kids walking at Fairlane Town Center. We expect the number of participants to increase this year," said Fairlane Town Center Marketing & Sponsorship Director Darla Bowen. "Every kid who participates in Kids 'N Kicks will reap the rewards by staying physically fit and earning fun prizes."
Kids 'N Kicks participants can walk with their family at Fairlane Town Center, 18900 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn, during regular center hours: Mon.-Sat. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sun. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
