Fatiha Serour, Ph.D., Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Peace Building

Dr. Serour negotiates for peace and equality around the world



    LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, June 18, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fatiha Serour, Ph.D., Regional Director for Europe, North Africa and the Middle East for the United Nations Office for Project Services, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in peace building.

Dr. Serour has been in the business of peace building for a very long time, 22 years in fact. In that time, she has acquired expertise in a wide array of areas, including gender equality and gender mainstreaming, youth meaningful engagement and development, and peace and security. She has also garnered knowledge of grassroots and senior strategic leadership, program management, and mediation and negotiation for peace building. She employs these valuable tools in her role as regional director for Europe, North Africa and the Middle East at the United Nations Office for Project Services. In this prestigious and demanding position, she leads national and international teams in all three regions, to implement projects for the United Nations system, international financial institutions, governments and other partners in world aid. In addition, she oversees initiatives for strategic direction, planning and implementation. The United Nations is an international development and world peacekeeping organization that engages people in nation and state building and international peace and security. It also serves to promote social progress, better living standards and human rights, as well as intercultural dialogue for respect and understanding, and the development of friendly relations among nations.

Dr. Serour attributes her success to unselfish vision, passion for helping people and the positive and loving influence of her mother. She is also aided by her fluency in French, Arabic and English, with a basic grasp of Spanish, Italian and Russian. Becoming involved in her profession was important to her, because she had an abiding interest in equality, equity and justice, and wanted a career helping people achieve a better life.

Dr. Serour received a Ph.D. in Development Strategies for Africa, earned in the United Kingdom, and a Master of Arts in International Relations, earned in France. She is a member of Human Rights Equality Communications in the U.K., the Human Rights Muslim Women Powerlist, the U.N. Interagency Youth Task Force and the Interagency Network for Gender Equality. Furthermore, she is a member of the Oxford Arab Committee, Diana Project Assessment Team, Muslim Women Power List and the International Youth Workers Association. Her worldwide community membership includes the European Youth Council, the Alliance of Civilisations, and the Capacity Building Initiative of the U.N. Department of Peacekeeping Operations. Looking ahead, Dr. Serour intends to lend her expertise to a variety of stakeholders. This includes assisting her brother, a doctor in Algeria, in setting up a clinic to treat older and vulnerable patients free of charge.
