/24-7PressRelease/ - July 21, 2005 - After FDA's demand to include 'vision loss risk' in the erectile dysfunction pill labels, Viagra, Cialis and Levitra came out with their revised drug label version. The new development follows behind reports, linking erectile dysfunction drugs to blindness cases among its users.
The condition of vision loss is identified as Naion (non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy), a block in the optic nerve due to lack of blood flow. The FDA took up the labeling issue seriously after it received 50 reports of complete vision loss cases. Doctors who prescribe ED pills disapprove of the risk and say that a direct correlation between the drug and the vision problem is yet to be established.
Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Schering-Plough who sell ED drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra support the FDA's decision to adopt new prescribing information regarding PDE-5 inhibitors and Naion. While they deny any causal relationship between the two, the pharmaceutical companies reveal that their new labels are directed towards Physicians, to assist them in making important decisions for their patients with ED.
Despite of the speculations of a blindness threat, the market shares of Viagra, Cialis and Levitra soared at the NASDAQ Stock Exchange.
