Italian Piedmont Wine Dinner
February 1, 7 p.m. - La Sorella di Francesca (18 W. Jefferson Ave., Naperville, IL 60540; 630-961-2706)
This Italian Piedmont Wine Dinner features the wines of Michele Chiarlo, a modernist in a very traditional region. Gino Catalano, a Chicago native and an Italian wine importer of Kobrand Corp., will be speaking about the wines during the evening as well. This five-course meal is $65 per person, excluding tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.
The meal starts with Ostrica Crudo, Kumamodo oysters with pear, lemon and basil paired with a 2010 Michele Chiarlo Gavi. This is followed by Polpo Grigliato, grilled octopus with fagioli gigantic, marinated sundried tomatoes and lemon vinaigrette. This pairs excellently with a 2009 Barbera d' Asti "Le Orme." The third course features Coniglio Cacciatore, braised rabbit with crushed San Marzano tomato sauce, cipollini onions and herbs. A 2008 Barbaresco makes a great pair for this course. Filetto e Tartufo, grilled filet mignon with truffled risotto follows this course and makes a superb pair for a 2007 Barolo "Tortoniano." The evening ends with Chiacchera al Limone, fried dough with ricotta dolce, lemon curd and acacia honey. This is the perfect companion for a 2010 Moscato "Nivole."

This four-course meal features beer selections from Metropolitan Brewery paired with delicious food selections from Francesca's chefs. Metropolitan Brewery is a new microbrewery in Chicago run by husband and wife team Doug and Tracy Hurst. This four-course meal is $35 per person, excluding tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.
The evening begins with Polpo Grigliato, grilled octopus with fagioli gigantic, marinated sundried tomatoes and lemon vinaigrette paired with Krankshaft, a pale ale. This is followed by Polpetti Agnello, lamb meatballs with spicy San Marzano tomato sauce, arugula and lemon. It is a perfect pair for FlyWheel, a German-inspired beer. The third course features Gnocchi con Pancetta, sweet potato gnocchi with cipollini onions, pancetta and brown-butter sage. A strong, smooth beer, Dynamo, makes the perfect companion. The meal finishes with Brasato di Bue, beer-braised beef ribs with parsnip puree, and is paired with IronWorks, a hoppy, top-fermented beer.

The Feast starts with Duo di Bruschette, a pair of smoked salmon with crème fraiche and caper berries and grilled chicken with Tuscan white bean and pancetta. This is paired with Cavalchina Bianca di Custoza. The celebration continues with Stromboli + Fun!, stuffed Stromboli with calabrese, finnocchiona, mozzarella, fontina and Parmesan paired with Elena Walch Lagrein. The evening ends with Beef + Tomatoes, house braised beef cannelloni with San Marzano tomatoes. La Maialina "Gertrude" is the wine that finishes off the evening. Francesca's Forno will also feature the work of a local artist at their Moveable Feast.

The dinner will feature Executive Chef Raul Arreola's Recipes of Love and two Classica Margaritas. The Amor Valentine's Day Dinner is $65 per couple, excluding tax and gratuity. The Amor Valentine's Day Dinner starts with Uchepos Gratinado, a corn tamale with poblano cream, melted cheese and esquites. This is followed by a choice of either Ensalada de Palmitos, hearts of palm with mixed greens and roasted red peppers drizzled in Cilantro Serrano dressing or Sopa de Chipachole, tomato chipotle broth with crabmeat and grilled asparagus. For the third course, diners can choose between Pescado Adobado, a fresh fish of the day served with Adobo sauce, roasted fingerling potatoes and baby spinach or Puerco in Mole Verde, pork loin in Oaxaca green mole with whole black beans and mashed potato. The meal ends with the delicious Chabelas Cake, a Tres Leches cake with fresh fruit and berry sauce.

If you're looking to keep the romance alive after Valentine's Day the Buglioni Wine Dinner is an excellent option. This meal features the wines of Buglioni Vineyards paired with aphrodisiac foods. The dinner is $55 per person. Reservations are required.
The evening begins with a cocktail hour featuring Ostriche di Amore, oysters on a half shell with a pomegranate mionette. This is paired with "Il Vigliacco" Brut Rose. The first course for the evening is Carciofi al Miele, shaved sunchokes on Romaine leaves with honey, roasted lemon and pecorini sardo paired with "Il Intruso" Bianco Veronese. Following this is Orecchiete de Rapini, orecchiete, rapini, roasted garlic and calabrian chiles paired with Valpolicella Classico. The third course is Costine Bue con Polenta, braised short ribs, creamy herbed polenta and asparagus. This is a perfect pair for "Il Bugiardo" Valpolicella Classicao Superiore Ripasso DOC. The evening of aphrodisiacs ends with Duo di Macaroon, an almond and walnut fig filled macaroon with gorgonzola dolce, date and raisin conserva. "L'Amarone" Amarone della Valpolicella is paired with the dessert course. Guests also receive homemade chocolate truffle to take home and continue the celebration.

The evening begins with Crostini con Fegatini di Pollo con Ricotta e Pomodorini, crostini with chicken liver pate or with ricotta and sweet tomatoes. This is paired with "Il Vigliacco" Brut Rose. Francesca's Family Chefs and Restaurateurs Honored at the Grand Chefs Gala
On January 27, 2012, Chefs and Restaurateurs Jimmy Bannos of the Purple Pig and Heaven on Seven and Scott Harris of the Purple Pig and Francesca's Restaurants will be presented with the prestigious Founders' Award at the Grand Chefs Gala benefiting the Illinois Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Founders' Award has been presented at the Grand Chefs Gala for the past 8 years and was created to recognize and honor an individual(s) that have significantly affected lives in a charitable or humanitarian way. Recipients demonstrate extraordinary service and leadership in the Chicago community. They are role models and exemplify professional excellence.
For the past two years, the award has been given to those that have exemplified these traits in the culinary industry.
"We are incredibly honored to receive this award," said Bannos and Harris in a joint statement, both of whom have contributed their time, talent and fundraising efforts to dozens of organizations throughout their careers. "There's nothing more important than giving back to the community in which we work and live."

Their Super Bowl Catering Menu includes salads, pastas, sandwiches, pizzas and appetizers for large groups. Carryout orders can be picked up anytime between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., and delivery is available anytime between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. to any location within a three mile radius on Super Bowl Sunday. For orders under $100 there is a $10 delivery fee, and for orders over $100 there is a $20 delivery fee.

Francesca's Restaurants are celebrating their 20th Anniversary this month. All Francesca's locations * will feature a special 20th Anniversary menu for $19.92 February 27 through March 4. Diners will get three courses at this price in celebration of Francesca's anniversary.
First course selections on this special menu include Insalata di Funghi, cremini mushrooms, celery, crispy leeks, parmigiano and white truffle oil; Lenticchie e Spinaci, warm lentils with garlic, shallots, basil and spinach, topped with goat cheese; and Polpette in Umido, homemade meatballs braised in tomato sauce, herbs, served with arugula salad and parmesan. Their second course offerings include Rigatoni alla Siciliana, which is sauteed with a spicy tomato sauce, garlic, parsley, roasted eggplant and parmigiano; Pollo alla Salvia, sauteed chicken breast in a light tomato sauce with sage, topped with mozzarella and prosciutto; and Tilapia ai Funghi, sauteed tilapia with wild mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes and herbs. To end the anniversary celebration meal, diners have a choice of Brownie alla Moda, a chocolate caramel pecan brownie served warm with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce and vanilla gelato; Crostata di Mele, warm Granny Smith apple tart served with vanilla gelato, caramel sauce and crème anglaise; or Cannoli, homemade cannoli filled with honey ricotta and chocolate chips, served with roasted pistachios, chocolate sauce and fresh whipped cream.

La Grange Rd., La Grange, IL 60525; 708-579-3500), every Thursday night from 6:30-9:30 p.m., the Jimmy Zito Band plays jazz standards from great artists like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Bobby Vinton. Friday nights at Francesca's Bellezza, high school students from Lyons Township play relaxing music from 6 to 9 p.m. From the harpist to violinists to singers, their music is a great addition to a great meal.
