Ferman Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of New Port Richey Discusses the 2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger with Hemi V-8 Getting a Standard 8-speed Transmission

    NEW PORT RICHEY, FL, August 20, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For 2015, the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger equipped with the Hemi V-8 engine will also have an automatic eight-speed TorqueFlite transmission, (1) notes Ferman's New Port Richey Dodge dealership. This transmission was previously introduced on the 2012 Charger with the Pentastar V-6 engine. (1) It's since been used in other rear-wheel drive vehicles with a variety of engines like the Dodge Durango and Ram 1500. (1)

To be even more specific, all 2015 Dodge Chargers, whether V-6 or V-8 models, will have the eight-speed TorqueFlite transmission, and no manual transmission will be available for that model. (1) The 2015 Challenger will have an available stick shift, but Dodge expects more than half of Challenger buyers, likely including those at the New Port Richey car dealership, will go for the eight-speed auto. More gears means higher efficiency, and Chrysler's expectations are that this eight-speed transmission will save about 700 gallons of fuel over a vehicle's lifespan compared to similar vehicles with five- or six-speed transmissions. (1) The company says that could save $2.5 billion in fuel costs. (1) Though it isn't available for the Challenger and Charger yet, parent company Chrysler does have a nine-speed automatic transmission that's standard equipment on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200. It's not all about the fuel, though. The higher number of gears also smooths out the shifting experience without sacrificing torque in performance cars like the Charger and Challenger. (1)
