CALOUNDRA, AUSTRALIA, June 27, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Scientific Research Centre today released conclusive figures indicating women in the U.K use online dating sites more frequently than men.

This finding reflects the patterns of men and women over the past two years and the numbers of women joining Internet dating sites have increased by 10% annually during this period.

Other countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States where online dating is also popular show figures that indicate more men look online for love than women.

So why is the U.K setting its own trends in this regard and contrasting the dating patterns of other western nations?

When it comes to Englishmen in the dating arena, international public perception of English males depict them as charming, well-spoken romantics, many with a witty gift of the gab.

However this perception was not reflective by many women in the U.K according to The Scientific Research Centre. An interview with one female respondent revealed this, "All our home town venues close at 12.00am and the men drink as much Stella as they can before the pubs shut then they spill out onto the street at the same time every night and end up having punch ups which hardly makes it an ideal environment to set aside some quality time to meet men and is why I am trying dating websites."

There has long been a stigma attached to online dating. Men would become suspicious at seeing profiles of beautiful women who post dating profiles, associating this with scammers and fake profiles.

Further data collected from our researchers tell us that many online dating sites have introduced a verification process upon member registrations and ultimately stamping out fraud registrations during the sign up process.

There is strong evidence that suggests meeting singles online is becoming safer and is indeed one of the most legitimate matchmaking tools available for single men and women compared to previous times and the stigma attached to people using online dating sites is becoming a thing of the past.

So, are dating sites the answer to the 21st century loneliness experienced by nearly 15 million single Brits? Or is it a cringe-inducing cyber hell? Are they searching in the wrong places or is the land of cyber really the answer for the 5 million registered online singles in the U.K?

Nowadays, matchmaking sites are protruding and seeping into our lives like never before. Anyone considering this approach for finding romance should steel themselves for a bumpy ride of trial and error.
