/24-7PressRelease/ - TEMPE, AZ, September 04, 2008 - With a new crop of undergraduates hitting college campuses around the Valley, area businesses can benefit from a ready-made, built-in customer, as long as they can appeal to this new generation of students. An expert in the collegiate lifestyle, CampusSpots.com, a fully-interactive, comprehensive website aimed specifically at college communities providing customized resource guides, local search enhancements and student-composed editorial reviews, knows exactly what it takes to create a buzz about businesses in this type of locale—as they gain insight straight from the source with their student-run media program known as 'The Spot'.
An idea collaborated from CampusSpots.com co-founders, James MacDonald and Steven Sapot, 'The Spot' not only brings awareness to various aspects of the resources surrounding a college campus, but it gives the students involved a real-world work environment experience. Unlike traditional internships, all CampusSpots.com team members work within a group setting to determine the latest and greatest information around campus, delegate article and video reviews and collaborate on the final product outcome.
The Spot provides site visitors with an entrenched look into campus-life and activities straight from the students; from restaurant reviews to business profiles—and everything in between. The online survival handbook also provides a customized appeal for Arizona State students with a Sun Dollar guide, best places to get late-night food, Happy Hour tours and hotel reviews and specials for when parents come to visit. In addition, users can read the advice columns from dating to interview tips, comment their own opinions and give suggestions of topics for the team.
"When we first started CampusSpots.com, we couldn't help but feel like something was missing," explains MacDonald. "Our 'ah-ha' moment came straight from a discussion with a current student; everything came full circle when we realized that in order to attract the college student, we needed to be a college student. Everything we do, as a business, comes directly from the voice and opinion of our team."
Although 'The Spot' started with two interns and has only been live for six months, online traffic spiked almost overnight and the Multimedia Program reputation caught the attention of 20 new members entering the Fall 2008 semester—further validating that fact that nobody understands the college student quite like the college student.
"As a team member of CampusSpots.com, I know that my opinion honestly matters and the opportunities I am given are going to benefit every aspect of my future career," says Bradford Dworak, one of the original two interns in the program and an Arizona State sophomore. "No matter what task I am involved in or what assignment I am given, I can articulate my opinion and thoughts in an open environment. My voice is actually heard."
In just one year, CampusSpots.com has grown into an online favorite and a trusted source for the most up-to-date information, trends and happenings around campus. "We would never have seen the growth in our company if it wasn't for our student team. They are the backbone of our business and the voice of our audience," says MacDonald.
