FRANCETOWN, NH, January 21, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As eyes look forward to a new business year, many small business owners and solo entrepreneurs are hoping that 2012 will be the one that catapults them into success. But businesses often overlook a key element when making their business plans and resolutions, according to one local Solo-E.com Certified Expert.
"Most new solo businesses fail within three years - and it's often due to the fact that many business owners think that simply hanging up an OPEN sign and placing an ad in the yellow pages will attract customers," says Paula Eder, Ph.D., owner of Finding Time. "The key to success in 2012 is to stop making resolutions and turn them into revolutions."
Founded in 2006, Finding Time helps heart-based entrepreneurs and small business owners align their core values and energy with their time choices and behaviors so that they can make more money, create more freedom, and find more time. Eder is one of 50 solo professionals who have met the requirements of the only international post-graduate certification program for solo entrepreneurs to become a Solo-E.com certified expert.

"We do use the wrong word - 'resolution' - to effect change in our lives and businesses," explains Terri Zwierzynski, CEO and founder of Solo-E.com. "We should be using 'revolution' because a 'resolution' is only an intention, where a 'revolution' means taking massive action to change a current situation."

Both Eder and Zwierzynski recommend a few tips to create revolutions for heart-based entrepreneurs and small business owners in 2012:

1. Create goals that are specific and measureable. "It's not enough to say, 'I want to be more productive and make more money,' as we often say when we make a resolution," explains Solo-E.com Certified Expert Eder. "Create goals that have an action plan for you to achieve very specific results."

2. Break down your goals into smaller do-able pieces. "How do you eat an elephant or start a revolution?" says Zwierzynski. "One bite at a time. So break down the goal into pieces you can realistically do."

3. Make a plan. "Planning may sound boring, but it is the only way to make sure your goals get accomplished," says Eder. "Take those smaller tasks for each goal and set a deadline to get them done. And then reward yourself for your accomplishments - that can even make it fun!"

4. Find help and support. "As a solo professional, it's easy to live on an island," says Zwierzynski. "Finding like-minded people who can help you achieve your goals and support you along the way will make a difference in crossing that goal off your New Year's Revolution list."
