Florida Grand Opera Announces Chorus Auditions

Calling all local singers! FGO announces auditions to fill a handful of vacancies in its chorus for the 2015-16 opera season.



    MIAMI, FL, March 20, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Florida Grand Opera (FGO) is currently seeking singers in a variety of voice parts to fill a limited number of available openings in its chorus roster for the 2015-16 Season, which will include The Barber of Seville, Norma, The Passenger, and Don Pasquale.

FGO is inviting experienced singers from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties to apply for an audition, which will take place on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 2:30-10:30pm at FGO's rehearsal space in Doral.

Once an interested participant has been prescreened, they will be invited to sing before a panel of select FGO staff members and guest panelists, who will assess participants' intonation, musicality, sight reading skill, tonal memory, and overall musical ability.

The panel will include Susan T. Danis, General Director & CEO; Dr. Julie Maykowski, Director of Artistic Administration; Brett Karlin, Chorusmaster; and one guest panelist.

***Audition requirements consist of the following:***
• Offer of three (3) Opera or Oratorio Arias (panel will select 1)
• Currently Active FGO Choristers: Two (2) Opera or Oratorio Arias (panel will select one)
• Chorus excerpt from Norma (provided when audition is scheduled)
• Chorus excerpt from The Passenger (provided when audition is scheduled)
• Sight reading
• Tonal memory
• Range assessment

Interested participants are not required to provide accompaniment; a pianist will be provided.

To apply for an audition, interested potential choristers must send a performance resume to Heather Osowiecki, Assistant to the Director of Artistic Administration, at [email protected] by Thursday, April 9, 2015.

Once participants have been successfully prescreened, FGO will contact them to schedule an audition. If an interested participant's schedule absolutely does not permit him/her to attend an audition on Sunday, April 12, please let Heather know as soon as possible by emailing her at the address above to arrange an alternate date/time.

About Florida Grand Opera
Florida Grand Opera (FGO), the oldest performing arts organization in Florida, celebrates its 74th year of continuously producing grand opera during the 2014-15 Season. The mainstage operas of the season include: Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly, November 15 - December 6; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Così fan tutte, January 24 - February 14; Georges Bizet's The Pearl Fishers (Les pêcheurs de perles), February 28 - March 14; and Gian Carlo Menotti's The Consul, May 9 - 16.

Founded in 1941 as Greater Miami Opera and later merging with The Opera Guild Inc. in 1994, FGO presents a mixture of standard repertoire and contemporary works as well as commissions and new productions - all featuring projected translations in English and Spanish.
