COLTS NECK, NJ, July 15, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Retrofitness dials in on the 80s with its purchase of the famous phone number 867-5309.
The awe-inspiring workout destination that offers exercisers an affordable "escape" back to the 80s has purchased the digits, made famous by a hit pop song, from a local New Jersey disc jockey through an online bidding war and will use the number for its franchise sales department. This is the company's latest tactical move to distinguish its brand from competitors.
"Just about everyone has heard the hit 80s pop song and it always brings out a fun reaction," said Eric Casaburi, founder and CEO of Retrofitness, Inc. and diehard glam band fan. "As a song that's still popular now and which will live on forever, it's the detail that completes Retrofitness' branding and further sets us apart from the competition."
In February 2009, the (201) 867-5309 phone number went up for auction on eBay, sparking an intense bidding war around the world. At one point, the price point went higher than $350,000 with huge corporations battling to win the war. It was Casaburi, a young 35-year old entrepreneur and product of the 80s, who won the number.
"The phone number reinforces the fun we like to have with our unique fitness brand," said Casaburi. "We go to great lengths to be a fresh face in an industry where it's hard to tell one gym from the next."
Retrofitness features an ambience unlike any other fitness club, appealing particularly to Generation Xers seeking an escape back to the days of big hair and tapered jeans at an affordable monthly rate of $19.99. Gyms feature retro-style color schemes, classic pop-culture 80s music and a 'RetroTheatre' where members can burn off calories on treadmills, recumbent bikes and ellipticals while watching famous 80s flicks such as Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The gym also offers a full collection of more than 50 top-of-the-line strength equipment and cardio machines complete with individualized LCD television monitors.
In addition, Retrofitness offers members a full-service RetroBlends juice bar with drinks packed with a nutritional punch, providing franchisees another revenue stream. Personal training, tanning and locker rooms are among the amenities available at every Retrofitness location.
Each club is 10,000 to 15,000 square feet and contains about $400,000 worth of equipment. About 80 percent of Retrofitness gyms offer in-house chiropractic and childcare services. Potential investors need approximately $1 million to get a club up and running, which includes equipment, franchise fee and build-out costs. Retrofitness offers franchise investors a full suite of support services including: access to strategic leasing and financing partners, site selection, full staff training on-site or at Retro-University, ongoing operational assistance, sales consulting, architecture and marketing.
