Forget health care now, what about the future?
The number of health care providers stagnates as the demand for care rises significantly. Baby boomers aren't the only reason.

/24-7PressRelease/ - COSTA MESA, CA, June 25, 2007 - As the population increases and the economy takes it's turns and dives, we notice that as the industry gets more specialized, the demand for basic care forces many doctors back to the middle. The point of initial care for most people is through their family physician. With insurance companies struggling to keep overhead down, the quality and quantity of care has diminished and doctors are less capable of dealing with the individual needs of their patients. Meanwhile top government officials receive the best health care benefits that money can buy. Many people are coming to question this standard of health care. It's clear that people are not getting the prescriptions they need and are probably putting off many other not so needed medical or dental procedures.

It is safe to say that many Americans would benefit from a health care plan that covered medical procedures that were truly germane to their circumstances. One example is dentistry. Some groups have advocated that high priority cosmetic situations should be a part of a descent health benefit. For example if someone chips a tooth, they should be able to get it repaired reasonably and not have to delay it simply because of cost. Many people suffer greatly throughout their entire lives due to a small number of simple problems in their lives. Sometimes it's as simple as having a good smile and a full set of teeth is important to a good smile.

It's clear that insurance companies have failed to offer the kind of care that a vast number of people need. Health insurance companies have been receiving a lot of bad press recently and in large part due to the lack of support in the most devastating circumstances. Perhaps this is best portrayed by TV news spots and magazine and newspaper articles. You typically see negative press coverage about the most taken-for-granted brand names such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Kiaser Permanente, Aetna Health and Cigna to name a few. Respected companies like State Farm and Farmers insurance group also have health and life policies on the books. These policies carry a lot of risk for the insurance providers until they are closed without incident. In other words, insurance companies can only supply so much coverage to each individual as a whole.

Many non insurance health alternatives have cropped up in recent years as well and for many people, they are an affordable way to start a benefit and, in many cases, they offer a savings comparable to that of a typical insurance policy, but many customers remain wary. People want to know exactly what the future holds and until a plan can tell customers exactly that, it will simply be a guessing game for the public and therefore we will likely see complaints about the health care crises for quite some time into the future. The latest veto on stem cell research also comes from a hard liner approach to stamping out possible solutions to many of the most costly health problems such as cancer and diabetes. The companies that sell the medical products and services needed for such chronic conditions are making such huge profits that they basically are lobbying to government to steer America clear of stem cell discovery no matter what. Maybe we are naïve to think that someone like our President, George Bush, would really care about such issues as a women having an abortion or stem cell research or the Iraq war for that matter, unless of course there is some type of profit in it.

Clearly, lobbying will probably exist for as long as mankind. But the bigger problem is the lack of education on the part of the "common" citizen. When all you see on TV is Paris Hilton and the latest happenings of Hollywood, you become desensitized to anything that would normally be considered shocking and so pictures of the suffering in Darfur and other parts of Africa don't do much to move us since we are used to seeing all kinds of shocking things on TV and of course the internet has brought out a more sinister and indulgent side of people as well. This is not healthy for health care and health insurance needs a tune up. Only the economy will tell.
