The inception of Green Rainbow Revolution (GRR) can be traced back to its founder and owner, Leila Goldmark. She formerly worked as an environmental advocacy attorney at Riverkeeper, Inc., where she prosecuted Clean Water Act, land use, and zoning cases. She lobbied for stronger wetland and environmental protections at various levels of government. After seven years, Ms. Goldmark had a baby, which would change her life on both a personal and professional level. She was inspired to provide a higher quality of life for her child, starting with art supplies, toys and other lifestyle goods. She came across two particular problems while searching for eco-friendly baby products, namely, "Who should you trust?" and "Why do so many environmentally-friendly products have no style, color, or fun?"
"Who should you trust?" Ms. Goldmark found it time consuming to understand the plethora of laws, regulations and certifications that applied to children's retail products, and she came from a legal background! She holds a JD/LL.M. in International & Comparative Law from Duke Law School, as well as an MBA from Columbia Business School. Even with an extensive legal background, Ms. Goldmark felt that navigating the legal maze regarding environmental products could give anyone a headache, so she set out to make sense of the rules herself, which would in turn allow her to provide a higher level of education and transparency than a typical retail shop when offering eco-friendly products to her clients.
The second question Ms. Goldmark kept asking herself when forming Green Rainbow Revolutions was, "Why do so many environmentally-friendly products have no style, color, or fun?" She kept coming across products that were simply put, ugly! The array of products that she offers now are not only eco-friendly, but modern and innovative in design, colorful, and of superior quality. GRR's product listings are also color and symbol-coded, which allows her clients to pick out products with qualities that are of importance to them - items that are made in the USA, made specifically for art or science education, made without animal products, or even made with recyclable materials.
A shining example of excellence in her field, Ms. Goldmark was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding in recognition of her amazing work in the field. She recently has launched a charitable "give back" program where a percentage of online sales are donated back to schools, PTAs and not-for-profit organizations. Looking ahead, she would like to see her business grow beyond a one-person operation; she would like to target schools, camps and children's organizations for greater business growth, and make sure that children's environments and products are as safe, healthy, responsible and fun as they can be.
