Former HUD Secretary and San Antonio Mayor to Open National Energy Conference
Henry Cisneros will be the opening speaker on June 14 at the third annual National Energy and Utility Affordability Conference, the largest national gathering of supporters of affordable energy for low-income households.

WHAT: 2010 National Energy and Utility Affordability Conference

WHEN: June 14-16, 2010 (9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Wednesday)

WHERE: Hyatt Regency San Antonio on the Riverwalk, San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio is the host city for this year's largest national gathering of supporters of affordable energy for low-income households. More than 600 people are expected to attend the three-day meeting presented by the National Fuel Funds Network and the National Low Income Energy Consortium.

Monday's speakers include former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros (opening general session) and environmental psychologist Doug McKenzie-Mohr (Monday luncheon).

Tuesday's plenary session speakers (9 a.m.) include former New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission member Nancy Brockway; Ray Gogel of the Current Group in Germantown, MD; and Douglas Micheel of the U.S. Department of Energy. Tuesday's luncheon speaker is Karl Rábago, vice president for distributed energy services with Austin Energy, a former Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Energy and commissioner of the Texas Public Utility Commission.

Wednesday's general session panelists (9 a.m.) are Gil Sperling and Peter Roehrig, senior advisors at the U.S. Department of Energy, while the Wednesday luncheon speaker is David Hansell, principal deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families.

The conference also will feature 56 sessions in workshop tracks dealing with energy availability and sustainability, weatherization and energy efficiency, energy assistance and education, energy policy and advocacy, vulnerable populations, energy programs in Indian country, and utility and fuel program.
