Fort Sill to Launch Guide by Cell Mobile Audio Tours and Text Messaging Service

Fort Sill Directorate of Museums will roll out two new Guide by Cell mobile technology services for visitor education and information-sharing at the three Oklahoma-based museum facilities.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, August 26, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fort Sill Directorate of Museums at the Fires Center of Excellence in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, is preparing to launch a new cell phone audio tour and text messaging service, powered by mobile technology solutions provider Guide by Cell. Fort Sill will launch the new technologies for their three museum facilities: the U.S. Army Field Artillery Museum, the Air Defense Artillery Museum, and the Fort Sill National Historic Landmark and Museum.

Fort Sill staff will use Guide by Cell's audio platform to record short audio tour narration for various points of interest and locations, such as the famed Geronimo's grave. Visitors can use their cell phones to access information by dialing in to a provided number and following prompts to hear more.

Visitors will also be able to instantly interact with fort personnel via simple text message. They can ask any question in the form of a text message to a 5-digit short code, and receive a live answer directly from a staff member.

"Guide by Cell's services will allow us to leverage everyday technologies to better serve our visitors, provide more detailed information about our numerous historical treasures, and assist in our efforts to educate the community and our soldiers," said Frank Siltman, Director of Museums and Military History at Fort Sill. "This new capability will allow guests to preview Fort Sill attractions on the web, have more flexibility in opportunities to visit the historic sites, and access in-depth details about our large collection of historic artifacts. We are excited about the Guide by Cell service and what it will provide our visitors and our nationwide community."
