MILTON, GA, November 06, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Given the challenging economic climate, businesses and individuals are finding new and creative ways to create opportunity within their communities. From tapping into new markets, to reorganization, the spirit of change is part of every organization and household. The City of Milton is no exception.

Long before Birmingham Falls Elementary (BFE), the newest elementary school within the city limits, opened its doors, parents and local supporters came together to find unique ways to connect community support with excellence in education. The result was the Birmingham Falls Foundation (BFF), one of the first of its kind in North Fulton.

"We know that the Fulton County school system will provide an excellent education for our children, but we wanted to offer the children of Milton access to extraordinary opportunities that the county is fiscally unable to provide," says Foundation founding member and President Ira Weinstein. "The Patrons and Partners of the Foundation have made these opportunities possible. This event is to honor and acknowledge their support."

The Diner at Crabapple is generously hosting the event on Tuesday, November 10, for over 100 supporters. Ronald Tracy Trussell, the Principal of Birmingham Falls Elementary, will provide welcoming remarks to the group.

The Foundation earmarks funds towards a variety of programs including the school's new science lab (dubbed the Discovery Zone), media center, TV studio (pending), and a variety of special educational initiatives supporting each grade level and the school's special education program. Much of the Foundation's funding supports joint programs with the school's PTA in which the Foundation provides the financial support, and the PTA provides the volunteers. The Foundation is run by a Board of Trustees, all volunteers from the community.

"We are grateful for the partnership and support of our volunteer organizations, the Birmingham Falls Foundation and the PTA, " says Trussell. "By working together, we are truly making a difference in the lives of our children."
