Prior to obtaining this role, he was general surgery resident of General Surgery at the Michigan State University Southeast Campus, Providence Hospital and Medical Centers from 2012 to 2017. Dr. Macedo began his career as a medical student at the Universidade de Pernambuco, Brazil, where he obtained his medical degree. He then relocated to the United States to start surgical training. He has independently performed several robotic procedures and is credentialed to perform highly complex robotic surgery at any hospital in the United States.
To date, he has over 60 internationally recognized peer-reviewed publications in world-class journals. Among these, he is the first author and principal investigator in most publications. Alongside with his academic appointments at University of Miami School of Medicine, including teaching and coordinating medical students and residents, he spends a great amount of time taking care of indigent and underprivileged patients at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the largest county hospital in the United States. Dr. Macedo is licensed to practice in the states of Florida and Michigan.
A respected voice in the industry, Dr. Macedo is affiliated with a number of professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology.
