Free WSO2 SOA Summer School Class Shares Best Practices for Implementing SOA Security on Premise and in the Cloud

Webinar-based training on July 15, 2010 provides insights on incorporating OpenID, InfoCards, XACML, OAuth and other emerging open security standards into an SOA

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, July 12, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The key to building a secure and agile service-oriented architecture (SOA) lies in consistent, reusable identity management services. Moreover, identity management systems should provide a rich intuitive user experience in order to foster productivity and adoption--and be capable of spanning services on premise or running in a private or public cloud. That may seem like a tall order. However, many emerging open security standards are providing easy, affordable approaches for authenticating, authorizing and managing user identities within an SOA.

IT architects and developers can learn SOA security and identity management best practices by attending the interactive online class, "Security in SOA" (http://wso2.org/training?soa071210). The three-hour session is being offered at no cost as part of the WSO2 SOA Summer School program. It will be held on Thursday, July 15, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific.

The Security in SOA class will begin with an overview of open standards for security, authentication and authorization. Among the standards reviewed in the class will be:

* Web Services Security, including the WS-Security, WS-Trust, WS-Secure Conversation, and WS-Security Policy specifications.

* Authentication via two emerging user-centric electronic ID standards: OpenID and Information Cards.

* Authorization through the widely adopted eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML) and Open Authorization (OAuth) protocol.

* Use of SAML 2.0, the Security Assertion Markup Language standard, for exchanging authentication and authorization data.

The session will then review proven approaches for using these standards to implement security and identity management as Web services, as well as bring these services to the cloud.

Leading the class are Prabath Siriwardena, WSO2 Identity Server software architect and product manager (http://wso2.com/about/engineers/prabath-siriwardena?soa071210), and Thilina Buddhika, WSO2 Identity Server senior software engineer (http://wso2.com/about/engineers/thilina-mahesh-buddhika?soa071210). In addition to their track record in product innovation, Prabath and Thilina both bring proven expertise in helping WSO2 enterprise customers to successfully implement identity management within their SOAs.
