Free WSO2 SOA Summer School Class Shows Developers How to Simplify SOA Implementations Using WSO2 Carbon Middleware

Webinar-based training on July 22, 2010 shares techniques for using OSGi-based middleware components to create lean, agile enterprise applications with WSO2's award-winning carbon platform

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, July 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Too often bloated middleware products add unnecessary complexity to a service-oriented architecture (SOA). However, if choosing middleware was more like buying a pizza--selecting only the desired features--SOA projects would be much easier to implement. Consider that consumers can buy the "New York Special" pizza as-is, modify the New York Special to cut the anchovies but add fresh tomato, or create a personalized pizza by picking only their favorite ingredients. That is the premise behind the award-winning, fully componentized WSO2 Carbon lean middleware platform.

IT architects and developers can learn about the inner workings of WSO2 Carbon and how to take advantage of the middleware platform's flexibility by attending the interactive online class, "Under the WSO2 Hood" (http://wso2.org/training?soa071910). The three-hour session is being offered at no cost as part of the WSO2 SOA Summer School program. It will be held on Thursday, July 22, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific.

Paul Fremantle, WSO2 co-founder and CTO (http://wso2.com/about/leadership/paul_fremantle?soa071910), and Sameera Jayasoma, WSO2 senior software engineer and OSGi technical lead (http://wso2.com/about/engineers/sameera-jayasoma?soa071910), will present the class. They will begin with an introduction to the open source WSO2 Carbon middleware platform architecture, which is based on the popular OSGi technology framework. Then they will review new development techniques that developers can apply to use any WSO2 middleware product as-is, add or subtract components to the product, or use the Carbon Core Framework with any of the 150-plus Carbon components to create exactly the middleware solution their SOA demands. Attendees also will learn how to deploy, manage, and view services across the whole platform.

Among the WSO2 Carbon component-based products reviewed in the class will be the WSO2 Web Services Application Server, WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus, WSO2 Data Services Server, WSO2 Governance Registry, WSO2 Identity Solution, WSO2 Business Process Server, WSO2 Business Rules Server, WSO2 Business Activity Monitor, WSO2 Gadget Server (portal server), and WSO2 Mashup Server.

Additionally the class will include a discussion about WSO2's development, build and test model, as well as how WSO2 applies Apache and other open source projects to WSO2 Carbon middleware.
