/24-7PressRelease/ -- Advertisers of fresh produce sometimes boast they can get their fruit and veg to you in days, or possibly hours. Not bad, but leading hotel and restaurant East Lodge can do it in minutes!
East Lodge cannot be accused of paying lip service to the term 'locally sourced ', as the kitchen staff will now be regularly plucking fresh and delicious produce from the most local source possible - its very own vegetable garden and greenhouse. Diners at East Lodge can enjoy many ingredients on the summer menus which have come directly from the grounds of the award winning country house hotel.
The East Lodge kitchens are led by head chef Simon Bradley, who has an enviable culinary CV, and in partnership with his kitchen team at East Lodge has been awarded 2 AA rosettes for a consistently high quality of food preparation and presentation. Simon is passionate about the dining experience at East Lodge and creating mouth watering seasonal menus for guests.
Simon said: "It's tremendous to be able to pick fruit and vegetables, herbs and salad ingredients directly from the East Lodge vegetable garden. There is no doubt that the unrivalled freshness of our produce adds to the culinary experience and at the same time reduces our environmental impact in terms of reducing deliveries by road. There is a real skill and patience required to grow excellent produce and we are lucky to have two dedicated gardeners on-site. We try and make the most of whatever ingredients are seasonally abundant - which requires quite a lot of planning and flexibility on our part; the end result is fantastically fresh fruit and veg, so it is well worth it."
The East Lodge gardens and green house will deliver the very freshest courgettes, tomatoes, beans, lettuces, fresh herbs, cucumbers and much more besides. To the rear of the vegetable gardens, East Lodge has built an impressive home for over 20 resident hens. Simon said: "As you can imagine the kitchen gets through a rather large number of eggs to meet the breakfast demands of our hotel guests alone.
The essential and very popular East Lodge full English put extra pressure on the hens, who are very willing and now provide a large proportion of eggs consumed at breakfast time!
East Lodge is owned by the Hardman family and has picked up a number of important accolades in recent years; East Lodge has again achieved the coveted AA "Inspectors' Choice" accolade with three red stars for 2009/10, placing it within the top 150 hotels in the UK. East Lodge was named "Small Hotel of the Year 2008/09" at the East Midlands Tourism awards, and then went on to become a silver Winner as "Hotel of the Year 2009/10" at the national finals - renowned as the tourism Oscars. In 2007/08 East Lodge was named "Derbyshire Restaurant of the Year" and also scooped the Conde Nast Johansens "Most excellent service" & "Readers choice" award.
