French law prohibits Beaujolais Nouveau to be released before the stroke of midnight on the third Thursday of November, and getting the wine to its destination on time has become a fun-filled race and quite a spectacle. Bottles of it have been delivered on the Concord, by horse-drawn carriages and elephants, by bicycles and hot air balloons.
The Alliance Française de Westchester will be joining in the festivities on Friday, November 21st, from 6-8PM, when the public is invited to their Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue (corner of Martine), White Plains (NY). Sample Beaujolais and other fine French wines, French foods and delicacies while socializing in French or English. Advance sale tickets (before November 14th) are $30 for members and $40 for non-members; at the door tickets are $40 for members; $50 for non-members. The Alliance Française hosts a variety of classes including French for children and adults of all skill levels, "Français des Affaires" (Business French), and "France Contemporaine" (Contemporary France). Business French, designed for those involved in French commerce, provides students with the vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and phrases critical to navigating French business environments, while Contemporary France provides an overview of French history and values that are relevant to today's French culture.
