CHESHIRE, ENGLAND, February 23, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Under new governmental plans, half of the houses in the United Kingdom will not benefit from the full solar panels subsidy available from April of this year. The latest news came last week as the government tightened its restrictions after it became more popular than expected.

The latest twist on the government's plans demands that homes be well-insulated and energy efficient before they can qualify for the Feed-In Tariff. This announcement came after the industry saw a 'gold rush' in order for homeowners to quality for the higher Feed-In Tariff. There were worries that the hundreds of extra pounds per household would be paid out and hence, the new restriction will cut this bill down.

All solar systems installed after 3rd March will receive the lower tariff of 21p per kilowatt of solar power, decreased from the current 43.3.p. In July, the industry will see more cuts as the subsidy is expected to be slashed to 13.6p per kilowatt. October and April of next year will also see further cuts.

Any homeowner who wishes to take advantage of the Feed-In Tariff, which pays customers for any electricity generated through the solar panels, will have to hold a 'D' Energy Performance Certificate to qualify for full payments. Any homeowner without the certificate will receive just 9p per kilowatt of solar power.
