/24-7PressRelease/ -- This past weekend, July 17-19, the National Board of Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. welcomed brothers from all over the Western US for its National Conference as well as the inaugural National Awards Dinner in Fresno, CA.
Brothers from Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc.'s sixteen chapters came together at Fresno State for a weekend of professional workshops, chapter development and officer training sessions. The event also featured a keynote speech from Fred Ruiz, co-chairman of Dinuba-based Ruiz foods, one of the largest Hispanic-owned businesses in the US. Brothers also participated in business meetings that included the election of the following brothers into the National Board for the upcoming 2009-2011 term:
• Director of Expansion, Edson Pacheco (Xi Chapter, Cal State LA)
• Director of Academics, Alberto Preciado (Zeta Chapter, San Diego State)
• Director of Finance, Gasper Martinez (Iota Chapter, Stanford University)
• Director of Public Relations, Alejandro Pineda (Alpha Chapter, Chico State)
• Director of Membership Education, Martin Pelayo (Epsilon Chapter, Fresno State)
The Conference Weekend culminated with the first ever National Awards Dinner, which celebrated Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc.'s accomplishments this year and acknowledged those brothers and chapters who had exemplified the organization's principles. The National Board is proud to recognize the following recipients:

• Undergraduate Excellence, Anthony Bestafka-Cruz (Iota Chapter, Stanford University) and Jonah Loera (Gamma Chapter, UC Berkeley)
• Campus Leadership Excellence, Christopher Rivas (Eta Chapter, UCLA)
• Undergraduate Philanthropist of the Year, Felix Bedolla (Mu Chapter, Sacramento State)
• Organizational Leadership, Kevin Banos (Delta Chapter, CSU Northridge)

• Most Improved Chapter (Nu Chapter, UC San Diego)

Gamma Zeta Alpha Fraternity, Inc. would like to thank all of the brothers who attended this year's National Conference. Additionally, the National Board would like to commend the Epsilon Chapter for the wonderful job it performed in hosting this event. Working for almost a year beforehand, the brothers at Fresno State made a concerted effort to provide the most efficient and professional conference possible. The Mu Chapter at Sacramento State shall now take over those responsibilities as it has been chosen to host the 2011 National Conference.
