/24-7PressRelease/ -- Humorist Jade Esteban Estrada received a standing ovation for his portrayal of Harvey Milk and other gay figureheads in the solo musical comedy "ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 2" Thursday, June 17, 2010 at The Rose Theatre in San Antonio, Texas.
The one-person show which features such characters as Alexander the Great, Queen Christina of Sweden, Susan B. Estrada recently performed the show at Colorado State University at Pueblo in observance of National Coming Out Week.
"It was a beautiful performance," raved audience member Mayra Alexandra. "It was very moving. Jade is a wonder," stated Marc Wendell, who also attended the show. "Jade has brought so many icons back to life, but none surpass the legacy of Mark Bingham. Seeing Jade re-create the day of a true American hero brought me to tears," said Anissa Lloyd, who attended the show with her teenage daughter.
Estrada is the author of 14 solo shows which include "ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 1," "ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 3," "Tortilla Heaven" and "Pico de Gallo."
Jack Miles of the Southwest Actors Guide calls Estrada "one of the finest solo theatre artists of the 21st century." Out Magazine christened him "the first gay Latin star." "With such well rounded skills, we're beginning to wonder if Jade is the next Sammy Davis, Jr." writes the San Antonio Current.
Estrada won the 2009 Best Overall Comedic Performance Award from Slice of Comedy. His television credits include appearances on "30 Rock" (NBC), "The Graham Norton Effect" (Comedy Central) and was the host of the 19th Annual South Florida GLAAD Media Awards (Bravo). His Latin music can be heard on the Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning police drama "The Shield."
"You definitely shouldn't miss New York-based solo performer Jade Esteban Estrada who has made a career of one-man shows in which he plays various historical gay figures," notes the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Jade Esteban Estrada is one of Texas' most premium exports" writes the San Diego Buzz.
Estrada will tour the Rio Grande Valley during July with his stand-up comedy show entitled "That Is So Gay!" He was recently the headlining act for the Empire Transgender Conference in Albany, New York where he received a double standing ovation.
