With 38 years of professional experience, 28 of which have been in his current position, Dr. Phillips specializes in teaching English literature and film history. His interest in studying the interconnection of film and literature inspired him to become involved in his profession. In addition, Dr. Phillips writes books on film history based on his research, and considers this aspect of his work to be the most fulfilling.
His book titles include the critical "Interviews (Conversations with Filmmakers)" series, "Creatures of Darkness: Raymond Chandler, Detective Fiction, and Film Noir," "Godfather: The Intimate Francis Ford Coppola" and "Beyond the Epic: The Life and Films of David Lean," "Stanley Kubrick: Interviews" and "The Encyclopedia of Stanley Kubrick."
A graduate of Loyola University Chicago, Dr. Phillips received his Master's Degree and his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Additionally, he earned his Ph.D. in English Literature from Fordham University in 1970 and is a member of the Modern Language Association.
