George Gabriel Abdelsayed, MD, Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

A gastroenterologist and associate clinical professor of medicine at N.Y. University's School of Medicine, Dr. Abdelsayed also serves as chief of the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at the NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn. Dr. Abdelsayed became a licensed medical diplomate through the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1988 and certified in gastroenterology in 1989, following completion of an MD at New York Medical College in 1983. Dr. Abdelsayed is well published with many publications in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of gastroenterology and hepatology (diseases of the liver).

Prior to teaching at the Langone School, Dr. Abdelsayed taught as an assistant and later as an associate clinical professor of medicine at Yale University's School of Medicine from 2006 to 2016. His ability to teach at such a high level stems from a very long and successful career in the field of medicine, during which time he upheld a successful private practice for eight years in Paterson, N.J. He also served in various capacities at hospitals, to include chief of the gastroenterology department at Brooklyn's Methodist Hospital, associate program director of medicine and associate chairman of education at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, as gastroenterology section chief and program director at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut, and chief of gastroenterology and endoscopy at Barnert Hospital. He was also appointed as an associate professor of medicine at the Hofstra Northwell school of medicine, 2015-2016. Dr. Abdelsayed is also a Fellow of several prestigious national societies, including the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Gastroenterological Association ( AGA), and the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (NYSGE). He is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).

Becoming certified by the American Board of Nutrition in 1992, in geriatrics in 1996, in critical care medicine in 2001, and in sports medicine in 2007, Dr. Abdelsayed has become a very well-rounded expert in his field, of which he has been very passionate. Well-known in his community, he served as a physician-at-large for the North Hudson Community Action Corporation in West N.Y., N.J., a foundation that was formed in 2002 to provide essential health and social programs to those in need in the area. He also serves as a deacon and medical consultant for the Coptic Orthodox Archdiocese of North America.

Graduating summa cum laude from St. John's University in 1979, Dr. Abdelsayed is a fellow member of the American College of Physicians and an honorary member and member of the patient care committee for the American College of Gastroenterology since 2007. Earning several Best Teacher Awards from Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., for his work, Dr. Abdelsayed is currently listed in 10 editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
