WILTON, CA, March 20, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- To help families and businesses stay prepared for an emergency while traveling, the experts at Get Ready Gear have published a useful step by step guide on how to assemble an automobile emergency kit.

"You should always keep an emergency roadside kit in your vehicle," notes Jim Serre of Get Ready Gear. "If you can't afford to purchase a preassembled auto survival kit then you can easily put together your own following this step by step guide."

Basic Supplies
You never know when a disaster is going to strike, and if something happens while you are traveling then you may be forced to walk miles in order to get help. No matter what type of climate you live in there are a few essentials that you will want to include in your emergency roadside kit including a flashlight, jumper cables, a blanket, warm clothing, extra oil and antifreeze.

Cold Climates
Even if you do not live in a location that experiences heavy snowfall, if you plan to travel through anywhere that is likely to get snow then you should have winter supplies in your emergency kit. You should keep a bag of cat litter, sand, or asphalt roofing shingles in case your vehicle gets stuck in the snow. Additionally, you will want to make sure you have an ice scraper and a small shovel in case you have to dig yourself out of the snow.

First Aid Kit / Food and Water
As with any emergency kit, you should always include a few first aid supplies in your trunk. This can include anything from band-aids and latex gloves, to disinfecting wipes and aspirin. You should also always keep a short supply of water in your vehicle emergency kit, and a handful of protein bars or survival snacks. Just make sure you select items with a long shelf life, such as our water boxes and emergency food supplies.

Additional Supplies
Depending on how dedicated you are, there are dozens of premium supplies that you can include in your emergency trunk kit. Including a fully charged, prepaid cellular phone, or an AM/FM radio.

Purchase a Kit
If you feel overwhelmed by the task of collecting items and assembling an emergency kit for your trunk, then you can always purchase one of our automobile emergency kits at GetReadyGear.com. We have one to four person emergency backpacks as well as insulated cooler bags with all the emergency supplies you need to feel safe in your car.
