Gilles Losier Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Music Performance & Composition

Thanks to wonderful mentors and a love for what he does, Gilles Losier celebrates more than half a century of success and achievements in the world of music

POINTE A TOM, NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA, October 8, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gilles Losier, a talented musician, composer, piano tuner-technician and sole proprietor, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in music performance and composition.

Gilles Losier's musical career started with an in depth classical music training (music dictation, harmony, solfege, counterpoint and Baroque improvisation) at the Montreal and Halifax Schools for the Blind. He was introduced to basic piano tuning while still studying at the School for the Blind in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After moving to Montreal, he started working at Willis and Company, piano manufacturers, where he learned all aspects of a piano from raw materials to final tuning and regulation. Later he worked for Archambault Music Store in Montreal and was sent to Baldwin in Cincinnati for specialized training on Baldwin pianos, which Archambault sold. At Baldwin Mr. Losier was given a hearing test which showed he had the ability to tune accurately to within better than plus or minus one-half cent, a cent being 1/100th of an equally tempered semi-tone. This is exceptional hearing indeed. Later, at Steinway Hall in New York he received further specialized training on Steinway concert pianos. Here he met Franz Moore (tuner to Vladimir Horowitz) who became his mentor.

For 22 years, Mr. Losier was also the resident concert piano tuner-technician for Place des Arts in Montreal, the city's major concert hall. He was responsible for tuning and maintaining all 23 concert grand pianos and rehearsal room pianos, plus he served as an onsite stand-by tuner during many concerts by numerous artists as well as during recording sessions of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal.

While maintaining his high standards and busy piano tuning schedule, Mr. Losier also performed frequently. He has toured all over the USA, Canada and Europe with a wide variety of artists playing many styles of music. He has recorded several albums himself as well as backing up other musicians on numerous recordings. His keen sense of oral perception has given him his greatest asset - the rare ability to instantly analyze any musical style and play comfortably in it - from folk and country to jazz and rock.

Today, with more than 60 years of professional experience in the music industry, Mr. Losier has cultivated a gift for composing and arranging, developed impressive concert piano techniques, maintained a keen sense of oral perception and showcased a passion for music of all kinds. He enjoys providing music education and continues to compose and perform, tune pianos, as well as serving as a consultant to others in the piano trade.

Well known for his ability to arrange all types of music, Mr. Losier performs traditional, Celtic, French Canadian and Acadian music covering the genres of jazz, pop and choral work. He also composes and arranges music, including religious pieces. His choice of instruments currently are the piano, fiddle and his own voice. Mr. Losier attributes his years of success to having great mentors, exercising self-discipline and understanding the importance of his surroundings to his work.

Mr. Losier holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a minor in sociology from St. Mary's University. He has been the recipient of a number of awards including the East Coast Music Award for Lifetime Achievement and from the Charles Crowe Academy in France, the Silver Disque award (Disque d'Argent). In the future, Mr. Losier will continue to do projects because of their worth, such as continuing to perform as well as passing on his education and expertise to the next generation of musicians through mentoring and teaching.
