VENTURA, CA, June 29, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Board of Directors of Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast (GSCCC) today extended congratulations to its Chief Executive Officer Sharon Reece for her achievements in Girl Scouts as she plans retirement effective October 1st, 2009. Reece has served 21 years with Girl Scouts in Texas and Nebraska, as well as South Korea and Japan in the western Pacific.

"Sharon Reece will retire to her home state of Texas where her Girl Scout career began after spanning 21 years, and the globe, leaving a legacy in girl development," said Mariann Novarina, GSCCC Board Chairperson. "Sharon has tirelessly embraced the Girl Scout mission throughout her career which has included national service as a member of the Steering Committee for planning Executive Leadership Summits, serving as an alternate for the World Convention of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, as well as her current position on the Charter Design Steering Committee which is determining how Girl Scout council effectiveness will be measured in the future."

Commenting on her retirement Reese said, "My passion has always been working to ensure that girls who would not normally find their way into the Girl Scout Leadership Experience are given the opportunity to fully participate. It's been my honor to work with so many thousands of dedicated volunteers to help girls grow into courageous and confident women, and my heart is with the thousands of girls I have seen develop so beautifully."

The Board also announced that it has initiated a search for a Chief Executive Officer candidate of national prominence and leadership to build upon the strong foundation Reece has established for GSCCC. The council Board desires to retain a qualified professional with ten or more years of experience leading a volunteer youth organization. A zeal for helping girls become leaders in today's society, a talent for fundraising, and integrity as a leader are among the skills GSCCC seeks in its next Chief Executive.

Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast serves a diverse mix of communities with over 12,000 girls, 6,000 dedicated adult members, and 48 staff. The council's jurisdiction spans nearly 400 miles of California's majestic central coast, bountiful agricultural regions, as well as industry corridors encompassing the counties of Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.

Candidates are encouraged to contact Robert Perodeau, Principal, of Evergreen Executive Source at 800-221-6663 or evergreen.source@att.net
