/24-7PressRelease/ - WACO, TX, July 24, 2008 - The Glass Doctor of Lawton is now nationally accredited by the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standards Council (AGRSS).

"Our goal is to provide the utmost quality of service for our customers, so we are excited to be in this select group of glass shops," David Porter of Glass Doctor of Lawton said. "The windshield is an integral part of the structural integrity of any vehicle. People don't realize how much of a safety concern proper windshield replacement is."

Consumers often think of all automotive parts in the same way, but the windshield is very different from a fender or battery. The windshield acts as a safety shield for the passengers inside the vehicle:
• Essential for Airbags - The windshield is part of the vehicle's passenger restraint system. The windshield must be installed properly for the airbags to deploy safely and effectively.
• Supports the Roof - The windshield also is part of the structural support for the roof in many vehicles. Therefore the windshield must be installed properly to ensure that the roof does not cave in if the vehicle is in a rollover.
• Prevents Ejection - A properly installed windshield aids in keeping passengers inside a vehicle during a rollover or crash because of the strength of the manufacturer-recommended adhesive.

For an auto glass replacement to be completed properly, the adhesive that is used must be give time to properly cure, or create a chemical bond between the glass and the vehicle frame. Glass Doctor of Lawton and other AGRSS-accredited shops use adhesives recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

Safe drive-away time is the auto glass service industry's term for the time required to allow the adhesives to cure. A vehicle is safe to drive after a windshield replacement only when the adhesives have completely bonded the glass to the frame. As a professional auto glass service provider registered by AGRSS, Glass Doctor of Lawton will inform the customer of the exact time when the windshield was installed in the vehicle and the exact time when the vehicle will be safe to drive.

For more information about windshield replacement and to find a professional AGRSS-registered auto glass service provider, visit http://www.safewindshields.com, the official AGRSS Web site.

AGRSS is an accredited American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-standards development organization. It has developed the world's only auto glass replacement safety standard, the AGRSS standard (ANSI/AGRSS 002-2002 Automotive Glass Replacement Safety Standard). The AGRSS Standard addresses procedures, education and product performance.
