Global Events & Marketing Pty Disagree With Recent Claims, as Women Excel in Direct Marketing Industry

A recent report has suggested that women are still struggling to make an impact in the business world; although this may be true in certain industries, Global Events and Marketing Pty believe it's important not to generalise.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, April 12, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Outsourced sales and marketing specialists, Global Events & Marketing PTY, report on the number of women currently excelling in the direct marketing industry.

Sunday 8th March 2015 marked the 106th celebration of International Women's Day. Since it was first celebrated in 1909, women have made great strides toward equality in the workplace, politics and at home. But Quartz (11 March 2015) reported a disparity in the fact that women are much less likely to lead new business enterprises. The report showed that on average, men are nearly twice as likely as women to launch a new business. And women are primary owners of only about 28% of private firms.

The reasons why there are so few women entrepreneurs have been suggested to include the differences in terms of work experience, resources and social ties; however there is new evidence to suggest that unconscious cognitive biases are also likely to play an important role. Some believe that women entrepreneurs are at a disadvantage because people are prone to doubt that they possess the kinds of traits and skills that we stereo-typically associate with entrepreneurship. This theory goes to suggest that there have been countless ideas that could have blossomed into successful businesses and benefited the economy; but these never did simply because the individuals who pitched them weren't the 'right' gender. Deep-rooted biases such as these will require a large cultural shift in how we view the 'entrepreneur'.

Global Events and Marketing Pty believe generalising in this way can be disheartening for female entrepreneurs, especially as events such as 'women in business' is helping to drive female entrepreneurship. Managing Director Alexandra Scowcroft is an inspiring woman running her own successful event marketing firm. She started out in the industry back in 2011 in London, gaining invaluable industry knowledge and experience. Since then, she was able to work alongside industry leaders in London, Nottingham and Sydney and now her firm is helping many young women and men fulfil their business goals.
