When this report was first published, European and North American manufacturers that dominated the global truck market. To some extent, this is still the case, with OEMs based in NAFTA, Europe and Japan leading technological developments in the industry.

But four of the world's largest manufacturers are based in Asia, and with these OEMs accounting for more than 30% of global truck production, it leaves little doubt as to where the greatest expansion is likely to be in the medium term.

This second edition of truck manufacturing report reviews the key market drivers, and updates market analysis. It provides an overview of the industry, and includes top level market sales data and production forecasts through to 2011.

Whilst the report follows the same format as the first edition, all forecasts and manufacturer profiles have been overhauled and any major changes in the truck manufacturing sector have been included.

Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter 2: Global overview - This chapter highlights developments in the global market, looking at consolidation, the major players and activity by geographical region.

Chapter 3: Manufacturers - This chapter profiles the main manufacturers, outlining DaimlerChrysler, Volvo, PACCAR, Navistar International, MAN, Iveco, Tata, Scania, Isuzu, Hino and Ashok Leyland's business activities, including locations of production facilities, mergers and acquisitions and products manufactured.

Chapter 4: Markets - This chapter discusses the North America Free Trade Agreement, and includes sales and production data for Europe, Japan, India, China, Central Asia/MENA, Latin America and Russia/Eastern Europe to 2011.

Chapter 5: Global emissions limits for heavy trucks - As this report becomes available, Europe is in a transition period, while the Euro IV emissions limits take full effect on new vehicles, in the US, the EPA 2007 limits are also just around the corner.
We take a look at the emissions regulations in force and planned for Europe, the US and Japan.

Chapter 6: Diesel development - While diesel power continues to make in-roads into the car market, it is the dominant power source for trucks globally, a situation that looks unlikely to change. We look at the technologies that are being adopted for heavy diesels potential of diesel/electric hybrids and developments in alternative fuels.

Chapter 7: Conclusions - This chapter sums up the report's main findings, highlighting how a truly globalised truck industry is currently emerging.
