SAN FRANCISCO, CA, February 02, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- GoingOn Networks, in conjunction with Emory University, today announced that it is a hosting a free webinar for higher education professionals interested in understanding the role of social academic networks in helping modernize communications and to increase engagement across faculty, students and staff. The webinar, "Building an Engaged Campus," will be held on February 9 at 11am PT (2pm EST) and led by Alan Cattier, Director of Academic Technology Services at Emory University. Cattier will offer best practices from 15 years of using social technologies in education at Emory University and share his vision for building a vibrant, more engaged campus.

"Modern social technologies are dramatically changing the way we communicate, connect and share information," said Cattier. "Colleges and universities have a unique opportunity to harness these technologies to improve student engagement and facilitate more meaningful communications across campus. As we've seen at Emory, an academic network can be an incredibly vibrant and vital component to today's academic ecosystem."

Long before the emergence of Facebook, Emory University pioneered LearnLink, an institution-wide online network for streamlining communication and engaging students, faculty and staff around both academic and co-curricular activities. Nearly 15 years and millions of posts later, LearnLink has become an integral part of the "Emory Experience," and has helped to set the bar for online engagement in higher education.

"Emory University is again at the forefront of using these social technologies to re-shape how students and faculty engage in academic life," said Jon Corshen, CEO of GoingOn Networks. "As Emory demonstrates, institution-wide academic networks are helping to transform static SIS, LMS and Portal systems into dynamic 'virtual commons' where students, faculty and staff can more effectively discover, share and connect with their school's most relevant information and resources, including each other."

In this 60-minute webinar, participates will:
• Learn how social technologies are being utilized to help streamline communications and foster student engagement

• Discuss the emerging role of Private Academic Social Networks, and how they differ from Facebook & Twitter
• Discover how to transform static portals into "intelligent activity streams" that ensure that you get the right information to the right people in the right way
• Explore new tools for fostering connections & collaboration between colleagues, cohorts and classmates

• Learn how students, faculty and staff can benefit from a connected campus

Professionals from the office of the CIO, academic technologies, student affairs, academic affairs and continuing education interested in attending can register for the webinar at http://www.goingon.com/emory-webinar.
