Golf Training Aids Don't Always Focus On The "Whole"
An online review reveals a seemingly amazing variety of golf "training aids." However, a closer look reveals that almost all focus on a short-sighted focus on swing, stance, etc. Pros are starting to talk more and more about the "strategy" of the game!

/24-7PressRelease/ - SPOKANE, WA, May 13, 2006 - Golf training aids are all the rage this season- so much so, that Google lists more than twenty-one million references to the search term, and today, ebay lists nearly 400 for sale. You might think that with all of these, the last thing the world needs is another golf training aid since in reality some are gimmicks and many are just other versions of the same.

Most "training aids" attempt to fine-tune the golfer's swing, correct his or her stance, putt more consistently and so on. Few focus beyond the body actions of the golfer, on the game as a whole, or the strategy of the game. While swing, stance, head position and all contribute to a golfer's impact result, when the focus is on the details alone, the overall results can suffer. More and more good golfers focus on golf strategy, course management, ball position - knowing the course and how it sets up to their game.

Northwest author and golfer, Jeff Gustafson, remembers how his father stayed focused on his game as a whole, strategizing with each round as a consistent amateur champion in the Northwest from the 1930s through the 1950s. The senior Gustafson was meticulous about planning each round and mapping his strategy in advance as he won his 20+ amateur events..

With 30 years in sales and marketing for a Fortune 500 company, Gustafson knows the benefits of strategic planning. He believes that the same principals critical to long term success in business apply to golf. His company, The Sixth Man, recently released a series of guides as a part of their "Personal Game Plan and Strategy System" for golf.

Known as "Pocket Pro," the guides include "Managing the Course," "Plan Your Strategy" and "The Situation Golf Guide." This season, the pocket-sized guides are available through more than 10,000 Golf outlets throughout the country as part of the Strategy Golf Center, as well as through the website, http://www.the-sixth-man.com.

The "Managing" and "Strategy" booklets allow the player to think about the game as a whole - developing a sound strategy that leads to better golf, while The Situation Golf Guide provides pointers for playing unusual lies in normal, wet or windy conditions.

While the world probably doesn't need another standard golf training aid to tune the swing or control the stance, just about every golfer out there could stand to "put a pro in their pocket," as the slogan goes. A "true" training aid, rather than a gimmick, they become a measure of what the golfer is actually doing on the course.

According to Gustafson, strategizing and planning develop an "in-the-moment" focus that allows the player to control the game. "Strategy Golf works," he says. "It has been the secret of the better players for years."
