Gina Bassman, founder and CEO of NicoFish Enterprises and Gonicofish.com, is on a mission to revolutionize Internet shopping. She embarked on this venture several months after leaving the corporate world to spend more time with her family. While at home, Bassman visited several web sites that promised to connect shoppers with the lowest prices from a variety of merchants. Bassman discovered that these sites were difficult to navigate, and she got lost in long, unorganized lists of items.
Never one to sit still for long, Bassman dreamed of a more efficient and fun way to connect online consumers with money-saving opportunities. Thus, she created Gonicofish.com, a central web site where web shoppers can 'catch' each day's latest and best discounts, bargains, and coupons. Her free resource helps consumers locate the best prices on items from nearly 1,000 merchants.
"I love working with the Fortune 500 retailers as well as quality boutique shops to bring shoppers savings online," says Bassman. "My goal is to provide a fun and easy place for customers to 'catch' bargains, discounts, and coupon codes."
In order to make her site "shopper-friendly", Bassman developed her own software and layout. Visitors to Gonicofish.com can browse by merchant or brand name, by a specific item, or by choosing one of eighteen product categories. Prior to founding Gonicofish.com, Bassman was Senior Financial Officer for the Detroit Lions. During eighteen years in the corporate finance arena, she acquired experience in mortgage banking, commercial real estate, retail, sports, and entertainment. She was also instrumental in the start-up of Detroit's Ford Field, which has 16 different business systems, a retail store, commercial office space, concerts, an NFL football arena, a parking garage and banquet facilities.
It's no wonder that Bassman has an entrepreneurial spirit. She represents the fifth member of her immediate family within four generations to found and run businesses. Her husband, Robert, owns his own accounting firm.
In order to make holiday shopping easier, Gonicofish.com suggests that consumers start with a plan. Shoppers should determine an overall holiday budget. Then, they should write a complete gift list.
