Government Land Reclamation Project in Monaco to Yield More Available Coastline Real Estate

Expected to give Monaco six more hectares of building space, the land reclamation act will create a whole new neighborhood in front of the Grimaldi Forum. Luxury real estate firm La Costa Properties set to help buyers purchase their dream homes.

MONACO, October 22, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Luxury real estate firm La Costa Properties Monaco has a long history of helping clients sell, purchase, and rent high-end homes in Monaco and the French Riviera. With news of Monaco's ambitious land reclamation project progressing, agents at La Costa Properties Monaco anticipate the principality's coastline--and real estate market--to expand, creating a new luxury neighborhood in front of the Grimaldi Forum.

A project several years in the making, Prince Albert II's land reclamation efforts are similar to those of his father, Prince Rainier III, who helped develop Monaco's economy with land reclamation. The first reclamation project, the Larvotto beach district, was created in the early 1960s. Next, the Fontvieille industrial area was created in the 1970s, adding 20 percent to Monaco's surface area.

More recently, Port Hercules was transformed in 2002 with a semi-floating breakwater, increasing its capacity and allowing larger cruise ships to dock. Port Hercules is also the home of the new Yacht Club.

Monaco's newest land reclamation, the Grimaldi Forum project, is estimated to cost 1 billion Euros for the first structural phase and set to be completed in 2014 after a suspension in 2009 due to worldwide financial crisis. Creating about 12.5 acres of land by building into the Mediterranean Sea, the new district will extend the western side of Fontvieille district, which is the historic area.
