Grammy Award Nominee, Patrice Rushen, Discusses her Role as the 2015 Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp Artist-in-Residence and the 21st Annual LSAJSC Benefit Concert

    NEW ORLEANS, LA, July 12, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp (LSASJC) Benefit Concert' press conference featuring Grammy Award Nominee and 2015 LSASJC Artist-in Residence Patrice Rushen will be held Monday, July 13th, 10 am, at Loyola University's College of Music and Fine Arts located on the corner St. Charles Avenue and Calhoun St., Room 240, in New Orleans. The annual event supports the LSASJC in its mission to honor jazz in the place of its birth and to foster greater appreciation of this art form. Rushen will perform live at the 21st Annual LSAJSC Benefit Concert on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. The Legendary "Queen of Swing", Norma Miller and returning LSASJC Artist-in-Residence will serve as host and emcee. Special guests Kermit Ruffins and Stephanie Jordan will also perform. The event is being held at Little Gem Saloon, 7 pm, 445 South Rampart Street in New Orleans.

Opening the event is a performance by LSAJSC alumni: Dr. Courtney Bryan-piano, Brian Quezegue-bass, and Greg Agid-clarinet. The collaborative who's who of legendary musicians and LSAJC faculty performing along with Rushen includes: New Orleans dean of avant garde music, Edward "Kidd" Jordan, Germaine Bazzle, Herman Lebeaux, Kent Jordan, Darrell Lavigne, Maynard Chatters, Marlon Jordan, Peter Cho, Brian Quezergue and Roderick Paulin. Rushen states, "I felt compelled to be a part of such an amazing group of musicians that dedicate their time to improving the musical talents of today's young musicians."

The Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp is a pre-eminent jazz education program developing the next generation of Jazz artists and preserving the great American art form. LSAJC Executive Director, Jackie Harris, explains, "It is so moving to have this concert once again this year, especially with all of our faculty and alumni. It really shows that what we started 21 years ago is still growing today."

The Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp is a project of the New Orleans Arts and Cultural Host Committee (NOACHC), a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving our cultural legacy and providing opportunities for arts education for New Orleans youth. The Jazz Camp is a three-week experience that offers intense music education classes to young students between the ages of 10 and 21 years old. Students must have been studying music for a minimum of two years to qualify.
