Green Beret Author John Fenzel Announces Fall Release of Debut Novel, The Lazarus Covenant
Is Truth Stranger than Fiction? Perhaps not, when the author is an Army Special Forces Colonel and White House veteran ....

WASHINGTON, DC, April 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "This may be too realistic..." --Those words, from a former senior White House national counterterrorism official to Green Beret author, Colonel John Fenzel, about his newly released international suspense thriller, The Lazarus Covenant, led to a comprehensive review by the Department of Defense to ensure no state secrets were released. His novel was cleared for publication; and yet, Fenzel's novel could well represent one of those unique instances where truth collides head-on with fiction.

The Lazarus Covenant presciently assumes a resurgence of instability in the Balkans and a growing crisis that must be resolved in order to prevent a wholesale clash of civilizations. Recently, Dennis Blair, President Obama's newly appointed Director of National Intelligence, warned that current events in Bosnia represent the greatest threat to stability in Europe today. A coincidence? Perhaps, but it's clear that the story told in The Lazarus Covenant holds a startling parallel to current headlines. From the Oval Office to the Hill of Apparitions in Medjugorje, Bosnia, Fenzel's novel adeptly conveys how world crises are truly managed.

What exactly goes into writing an international thriller that's so ultra-realistic? According to General Dave Grange, a CNN military analyst "You cannot write an intriguing, edge of your seat book like this unless you are grounded from experience in actual operations".

John Fenzel was an Army Special Forces Major when he started The Lazarus Covenant fifteen years ago. The road to publication for many authors is long, but in Fenzel's case it makes eminent sense when you consider that all-the-while, he's kept his day job—commanding Green Berets on our nation's front lines.

That just may be what makes Fenzel's novel so compelling. Since he began writing The Lazarus Covenant, he's deployed frequently abroad, worked in the White House as a Special Assistant to the Vice President, led the effort in creating the nation's color-coded alert system, and served as a Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense. His novel is infused with rich detail and nuance from those experiences.

True to form, The Lazarus Covenant is no simple story. In fact, it's complex, it's controversial, and it's downright terrifying. Rick Newman, author and correspondent for US News and World Report, says "If John le Carre were to visit the Balkans, this is the kind of thriller he would produce."
