OREM, UT, August 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In the new tech thriller, Green Spin, on Amazon.com, author John Pilmer explores the ever shortening phenomenon of compressed news cycles. With the proliferation of online media and social networks, the time from the occurrence of news to the time it can be shared around the globe is now measured in seconds.

"Compare news cycles to just 10 years ago and we see an amazing trend," John Pilmer said. "Instead of days or hours, now, we are talking seconds before a tweet is heard around the world. In Green Spin the characters are caught up in the future meat grinder of even more radical changes in the way news is delivered."

During Revolutionary War times, Paul Revere rode a horse from town to town heralding the arrival of the British invasion. The Pony Express later used the same animal to create a connection between east and west coasts in the U.S. However, for long after that, the delivery of news across the ocean and between continents was measured in weeks up until the advent of the transoceanic cable.

Contrast that with today's world and add a few years into the future. News is made and delivered in seconds. The delivery and reaction to the news can circle back and affect change while the news is still being created. Such is the case in the criminal act featured in Green Spin. Antagonist Bernard Reutten watches and read news of his terror plot online. He then attempts to manipulate the news to tell his side of the story.
