Gregory George Guthrie Honored for Excellence in Information Science

Mr. Guthrie aspires to run for political office in the future

    TULSA, OK, April 14, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gregory George Guthrie, Program Manager of the United States Department of Commerce for the National Technical Information Service, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Branding. Mr. Guthrie has 22 years of professional experience, with three years of experience as a program manager of the National Technical Information Service. Throughout his career, he has set himself apart as an expert in technical information, editing technical reports, and library, information, and data science. On a daily basis, he is responsible for handling a client regulation database, as well as writing a newsletter from a technical information perspective and marketing the National Technical Reports Library Database. National Technical Information Service is a Federal agency that provides Distribution of government research and development reports; Promotion of American innovation and economic growth by collecting and disseminating scientific, technical and engineering information to the public and industry; Provision of information management solutions to other federal agencies.

Prior to joining the National Technical Information Service, Mr. Guthrie worked as a program manager of the National Technical Reports Library, an adjunct professor of Georgetown University, an independent contractor for the Environmental and Natural Resources Policy Division of the Congressional Research Service of the Library of Congress, and a Writer for "Urban Tulsa." Additionally, while at the World Bank, Mr. Guthrie was a contributing writer to "The Environmental Program for the Mediterranean, preserving a shared heritage and managing a common resource." Another one of his greatest achievements was his thesis, "Labor Unions: Champions of Social Justice," which was published in 2002, and as a book in 2010. Throughout his career, he has been cited in other articles, such as "Labor Policy and Civic Values: The Curious Contradictions of Right to Work" and "American Labor: A Documentary Collection" - an award winning book by Professor Joseph McCartin of Georgetown University.

Mr. Guthrie wrote an article for "Urban Tulsa" newspaper called "Now and Then," reflecting on Oklahoma's past 100 years. In 2007, he was interviewed on air by the Georgetown University Forum, a weekly radio program highlighting the research and expertise of Georgetown University faculty. The program airs internationally via National Public Radio, Armed Forces Radio Network, Voice of America and other syndicated broadcast networks.

Looking back, Mr. Guthrie attributes his success to his perseverance and the influence of his family, especially his mother, Helen Guthrie, who worked in the Reagan White House, and has been involved with the U.S. Congress. He became involved in his profession because of his education and previous work experience in construction and the scientific field, in combination with library science. Mr. Guthrie received a Master of Arts in liberal studies from Georgetown University in 2002 and a Bachelor of Science in natural science from Oklahoma State University in 1981. He is a member of the National Federation of Federal Employees, the DC-Washington Chapter of the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association, and Georgetown Alumni. In 2014, he was presented with a Silver Medal Award by the United States Department of Commerce. In the coming years, Mr. Guthrie aims to run for political office. In 1990, he served as the director for his mother's campaign for Oklahoma's First Congressional District.
