/24-7PressRelease/ - March 04, 2008 - Whether it's shoplifting or joyriding, the Garda cannot touch them; they've not a care in the world and the living is easy.
But pain is part of the experience of the group. A dark shadow falls across their lives. Things are never quite the same again as the group has to grow up and come to terms with the harsh realities of adulthood. In a culture where life is always on the boil and often boils over, humour is the safety valve of the group.
"Tearaways", by Alan Gately, chronicles the lives of a group of teenagers in a tough part of Dublin. This is an unflinching and unsentimental account of what it is like to grow up in urban Ireland in the nineteen eighties. Father Ted it isn't.
About the Author:
Alan Gately is a new writer and an artist from Dublin's Docklands. He writes and paints from his experience and personal observations in a hostile environment. He deals with this by his creative ability and fanciful imagination, as he reflects on and observes the characters of his community. Alan continues to live and to write in his native Docklands; a place that has inspired writers, artists, entertainers and sportsmen, a place of hope and pride, a place of doubt and despair, a place he calls home.
