WESTON, FL, April 16, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The middle school performed their version of Mulan, Jr. at Wannado City's theater in Sunrise. The costumes, in the colors of cherry blossoms, lit up the simple Asian inspired set design. "I was honored to portray Mulan and act with this terrific cast for the last time before moving up to high school," states Cristina Quintero who played opposite Diego Zozaya who was Captain Shang. Mushu the dragon, a stand-out character, was played by Sara Shourds. Her dry humorous delivery coupled with her eye-catching face and body make-up made for some very entertaining moments.

Sagemont's elementary school student's in 4th and 5th grade presented their rollicking version of Disney's The Jungle Book, Kids, also at the Wannado City Theater in Sunrise, Florida. For this production, over 30 cast members were on stage for most of the performance. The troupes of students sang and danced choreographed numbers like "The Bare Necessities" while costumed as bears, tigers, panthers, elephants, snakes, vultures, monkeys and more.

"Learning the role of Shere Khan was a great experience since that is not my normal personality," admits Angel Martinez. Other lead players were Mowgli, Ian Schneider, Baloo, Blake Meyerson, and Bagheera, Aleeza Kessler. A stand out number was Kaa the snakes, "Trust in Me," sung by Jessica Jordan and her lovely vine inspired fellow singers. "The combination of a fantastic cast, directors, parents, and script made this production a highlight of the school year for everyone," explains Michelle Arango, one of the directors and fourth grade teacher.

Jungle Book was a lush production with great detail put into jungle effects and spectacular face-painting by Curly Sue and Friends, a local Disney quality face-paint specialist. Curly Sue was also responsible for the unusual face and body paint used on Mushu in Mulan.

Sagemont's high school spring drama production is scheduled for May of this year. The group will perform the musical "Back to the 80's." In addition, Sagemont School's Thespian Troupe will be competing at the 2009 Florida State Festival in Tampa. The troupe has won many accolades in the past. This year, Dean Malahias, Agustina Sklar, and Samuel Vivas will be presenting an acting ensemble by John Rand entitled, "Drugs Are Bad." Other competitive pieces will include monologues, singing duets and an original mime piece created by Sebastian Bruno Harris.
