NORWICH, UK, November 25, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- New Quick Hitch Safety law laid down by Major Contractors

Two of the UK's leading construction contractors, Balfour Beatty Utilities Solutions and Skanska UK, have announced that all their sub-contractors and machinery suppliers have to comply with their approved list of hydraulic excavator quick hitches by the start of October.

New Safety legislation states that as of from October 1 2009, digger machines of 8-tonne capacity and above (including backhoe-loaders) will not be permitted to operate on site, unless they are fitted with an approved 'double-locking' automatic hitch. Manual and semi-automatic hitches, along with direct-fit buckets will not be permitted.
Due to four fatalities in the last three years, the construction industry is now leading the way to reduce Quick Hitch accidents by introducing tougher safety measures.

The new I-lock Quick Hitch from Harford Attachments has been approved by Balfour Beatty and Skanska UK for use on their sites, and can be obtained by contacting Harford Attachments direct.

I-Lock Automatic Quick Hitch
I-Lock is unlike anything currently available and is creating huge interest with machine makers and contractors. Not only does I-Lock satisfy the requirement to lock both pins, it goes much further by applying the safety lock instantly and from then on giving the operator independent control of the safety function. That is what makes I-Lock different from anything else in the market place and puts it into a different league as far as safety is concerned.

Tried and Tested
The I-Lock is tried and tested - it hasn't been rushed through to comply with new standards. The design process started over 5 years ago and the first prototypes started testing in the US in 2006. There are hundreds of big I-Locks out there with 4000+ hours behind them.

I-Lock was launched in the UK in January 2009. "It took a while for word to get round, we expected that but the last couple of months have been amazing. I think users want to hear other users experience rather than believe the sales hype. We have a growing number of I-Lock users out there now and they are spreading the gospel. It's great for us to be able to say there is nothing out there which compares and know that it's right. Being able to offer the same hitch on machines from 100 tonnes right down to 2 tonnes is a huge advantage - users are realising that having the same system on all their machines, from mini's right up to the top end, must be good for safety. Operators can switch from one machine to another and immediately operate the hitch correctly" - Steve Kidd, MD.
