Harley-Davidson Becomes the Official Motorcycle of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

    TAMPA, FL, June 16, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Harley-Davidson of Tampa is pleased to announce that Harley-Davidson has just finalized a long-term agreement with officials from the City of Sturgis, South Dakota, making H-D the official motorcycle of the Sturgis Motor Rally for almost a century. An elaborate demonstration was held in front of Harley-Davidson's headquarters in Milwaukee when the American bike maker announced its 75-year partnership with the Sturgis bike rally in South Dakota. (2)

Matt Levatich, president and chief operating officer at Harley-Davidson, said H-D riders have been attending the rally for decades and mentioned the importance of both celebrating the legacy and history of H-D in Sturgis and creating new memories for the future. (1)

In recognition of the partnership, bricks were pulled out of H-D's historic headquarters building in Milwaukee, using a motorcycle. The bricks were then shipped to Sturgis (2) to become a part of the new permanent plaza that will be built on Main Street. In addition to the plaza, a stage for events like concerts and weddings will also be included. (1)

Harley-Davidson has even gone so far as to reach out to its fans via social media so that H-D bikers and enthusiasts can offer naming suggestions for the new plaza. The act is in a small way reminiscent of Project Rushmore that, due to comments and suggestions from H-D riders, allowed the bike maker to offer various enhancements for its 2015 model lineup, which is now available at Harley of Tampa. The new plaza will be completed in time for this year's 75th Sturgis Motor Rally in South Dakota, and with Harley as the official motorcycle for the rally, the event is bound to attract riders and fans for years and years to come. (1)
