/24-7PressRelease/ - ROCHESTER, MI, April 26, 2008 — The vinyl industry has faced recent scrutiny by environmental activist organizations that claim PVC is harmful or even toxic to humans and the earth. They have drawn special alarm to those companies who make products with phthalates, which are the most commonly used plasticizer. Many plastics companies are refuting these claims, stating that these chemicals have been used without harm to people or the environment for decades, and there have been no governmental reviews that find phthalates hazardous for any of its many uses.

Safety reviews by European and American scientific panels have approved phthalates for use in toys and in nail polish among many other products. The Harman Corporation says that the quality of their product is not solely based on the product's effectiveness, but also their accomplishment of serving the environment and the public by adhering to safety standards, and phthalates have been deemed safe for use.

The Harman Corporation is an active participant in related industry action groups, and rely on accredited information to produce products that support their customer's best interest. To further Harman's involvement with in the PVC industry, Ted Fisher, Operations Manager for Harman Corporation, has recently been appointed as vice chair of the SPI Vinyl Products Division.

"I am honored to be invited to work the SPI Vinyl Products Division Executive Committee. These individuals are among the most experienced and influential in the industry. They are a great group of people with the common goal of promoting the value and benefits associated with flexible PVC products," Fisher said.

Harman Corporation hopes to show all of the positive aspects of the plastics industry by continuing the production of high quality products and addressing all related concerns and with the customer's best interest in mind.
