Hastings & Hastings on the University of Law

Hastings & Hastings, one of the Valley of the Sun's premier advocates for young lawyers, calls attention to the University of Law

PHOENIX, AZ, September 18, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The University of Law, located in the United Kingdom, which has declared that they will be granting a tuition reimbursement of 50 percent to any and all graduates who are unable to find gainful employment after graduation.

The cost of attending law school is prohibitive. The Washington Post reported that the average tuition for three years of law school is approximately $90,000. When factoring in the cost of living, the average debt accrued by a law student easily approaches almost $150,000. Add in the cost of interest accumulated over 15-20 years and potential law students are looking down the barrel of a frightening debt situation. This potential problem is compounded by the current job market for fresh law graduates. From 2007- 2014 the overall employment rate for graduates was either declined or remained stagnant. The class of 2014 saw that first rise in this percentage in over 7 years. What all this means is that the barrier for potential entry into the profession of law has grown.Hastings & Hastings , always a proponent for equal opportunity, laments this situation.

One brave university in the United Kingdom thinks it has found a way to address this growing problem. The University of Law, with locations in London, Manchester, Bristol, and more, has announced that it will be reimbursing 50 percent of its tuition to any graduates who are unable to secure employment.

"Addressing head-on key student concerns such as employability, graduate debt and value for money, the new direction taken by ULaw is the first of its kind in the sector and is set to revolutionize the legal training industry. More than just a degree, today's students want a clear return on their investment. For law graduates, this means one thing: securing a training contract or a full time job upon graduation. Our position as the preferred training provider to over 30 major law firms and our experience in training highly skilled law practitioners give us the confidence and the assurance that our graduates will be in employment within nine months," said ULaw CEO David Johnston.

Hastings & Hastings has always wished to be viewed as a steward of the legal profession. To that end, the firm stands in support of the University of Law's bold and forward-looking decision.
