HAWAIIAN ROCK BAND KANEKOA RELEASE 'UNDER THE COCONUT SKY' ON FONTANA/UNIVERSAL

    /24-7PressRelease/ - December 24, 2007 - Kanekoa, the Hawaiian Rock Band from the North Shore, Maui, fronted by two ripping electric ukuleles released their debut Major Hana Records album, "Under The Coconut Sky", on November 6th, 2007. "Under The Coconut Sky" is distributed by Fontana/Universal.

Director Peter Farrelly saw Kanekoa play in LA at The Mint, and soon thereafter cast them as the featured band in the Farrelly Brothers DreamWorks/Paramount film "The Heartbreak Kid", starring Ben Stiller. "The Heartbreak Kid" features Kanekoa's first single "Way Down," (from the Coconut Sky CD). "Way Down", now playing on 20 stations Nationwide, is finding success at the Triple A format.

Kanekoa's version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," has garnered 25,000 downloads and has been an international iTunes Folk Chart hit; in 2006 it was #1 in Canada for six months, #1 in Australia for four months, and # 1 in the U.S. for three weeks and continues to chart in many countries' Top 100 Folk charts. "Somewhere" was released on Major Hana Records Hawaiian music compilation, "Ohana - Volume One", and has been featured on the soundtrack for, "Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing And Charm School", starring Danny DeVito, John Goodman, and Robert Carlisle; "The Pride of Britain" with Tony Blair; and, various PGA Tournament national television broadcasts.

Kanekoa pages have 40,000 friends on MySpace, far more than any other band from the state of Hawaii. Their Andy Warhol/Peter Max influenced, psychedelic versions of "Morning Sun", "Nice One (Live) 1 & 2", "Ever Since", "What Have We To Lose", "Aumakua", "Followin A Fool", and second single, "Stranger Things" are currently available for viewing on YouTube.

Kanekoa is comprised of: Lead Singer/Rhythm Ukulele player, Kaulana Kanekoa, Ukulele/Guitar player, Vince Esquire, Travis Rice, Shawn Michael, and, Brett Nelson. Esquire has played electric guitar with Willie Nelson, The Allman Brothers Band, and Los Lonely Boys.

Kanekoa will begin touring throughout the United States in early 2008.
