/24-7PressRelease/ - SAN DIEGO, CA, September 30, 2007 - Hendrick Automotive the leading dealer for Chevrolet vehicles in San Diego, CA has announced perennial championship contenders entering the Chase for the Nextel Cup.

For the 2007 season, defending champion Jimmie Johnson and four-time titlist Jeff Gordon lead the point standings entering the Chase. Hendrick has three championship contenders, with nine wins between them. Among them, Johnson and Gordon are the favorites entering the Chase.

Johnson and Company has won on a variety of tracks this season. The team's intermediate and Car of Tomorrow programs have been exceptional, which will play right into Johnson's hands considering that the final 10 races are made up entirely of 1.5-milers and COT races. Johnson scored wins on two of the tracks — Atlanta and Martinsville — earlier this season.

Since Gordon captured his first of four championships in 1995, he has been considered a favorite every year. Before NASCAR chose to alter the Chase format by setting the postseason points seeds by wins, Gordon had topped the ranks for 22 of 26 races. Despite a three-race slump entering Richmond, his fourth-place finish Saturday is proof that Gordon is back on a roll.

Gordon has two wins this season on Chase tracks -- Phoenix and Talladega. Gordon can boast victories on all but two tracks on the Nextel Cup tour — Texas and Homestead — an achievement none of the Chase contenders can touch.

Meanwhile, the third Hendrick Chase driver, Kyle Busch is hard to beat when it comes to raw talent. The 22-year-old is far from giving up in his second Chase appearance.
