SAN DIEGO, CA, December 16, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- High Bluff Academy, the North County college preparatory school specializing in SAT and ACT test preparation, is implementing a community outreach program to teach students how to use social media to benefit the world community and support philanthropic organizations, such as The Project for Sudan. The High Bluff Outreach student service organization is an extension of the schools Marketing for Nonprofits class, and currently consists of about ten students.

High Bluff Academy has become largely involved in The Project for Sudan, which all began with a powerful and touching presentation about a former Lost Boy of Sudan, George Odong, and his captivating journey for freedom at the young age of eight. Students of High Bluff Outreach have worked with Odong in providing support in South Sudan, the world's newest nation, which is located in one of the poorest regions in the world. The student service organization has aided in building a maternity clinic that holds prenatal and parenting classes for mothers in the South Sudan region. For women in labor, being transported to the nearest clinic is very dangerous; the only means of transportation consists of riding on the back of a motorcycle on unpaved, bumpy roads. The organization is hoping to help provide this region of South Sudan with a donation of a four-wheel drive vehicle to use as an ambulance.

High Bluff Outreach recently hosted a clothing and book drive, and collected a total of twenty large bags of clothes, shoes, and books in just one day, all of which will be donated and shipped to Africa. Students utilized their social media skills to raise awareness and inform their friends about the drive. High Bluff Academy also recently donated $1,000 to pay for a new generator for the medical clinic in Sudan, as the town they are serving has no electricity.

Next up for High Bluff Outreach is an Extreme Sports Day for elementary and middle school students taking place during the spring semester. The day will include laser tag, extreme dodge ball, and other exciting games, along with food and prizes. All proceeds collected from the event will be used to purchase medical supplies for the clinic in Sudan.

High Bluff Academy students will have the gratifying opportunity to Skype with George Odong and his wife Cynda Fuentes while they are in Sudan, and meet some of the people they have been helping. By implementing a structured community service program, High Bluff Academy hopes to strengthen studentsEUR senses of civic engagement and community; helping them achieve their educational, developmental and social goals.
