The local store finished in the top three in sales during its first month in business and, as a result, ranks in the top five openings in franchise history.
The stores' early success suggests that Luke Walling, owner of the Hickory store, was indeed on to something when he decided to invest in the retail franchise despite wavering economic conditions and a shaky national retail market.

Walling says his confidence in the customers meant the poor economy was never a deterrent in opening the store.
"I am not surprised that HobbyTown USA is off to such a great start. As we move into the warmer months, and more residents look for family-fun, outdoor activities, we anticipate that this location will continue to be one of the top performing in the country," he added.
The franchise has a total of 173 locations operated by local owners across the United States.
